James has more than 10 years’ experience with a focus on oil and gas transactional work, particularly the acquisition and disposal of upstream and service sector companies and equity investments.  

He also has an interest in advising on supply chain and commercial contracts, with previous experience gained on secondment at an operator where he assisted with a drilling campaign, gaining vital working knowledge of the industry’s standard contracts.

James has advised clients on technology development projects and intellectual property matters, while also providing more general corporate and commercial advice. 

He was a contributor to “The Technical and Legal Guide to the UK Oil and Gas Industry” and to the three volume “Technical and Legal Guide to Global Hydrocarbons” and has tutored on the Energy Law elective at the University of Aberdeen.
